Between June 25th and 26th, the state of Michigan was hit by severe storms, flooding, and tornadoes. President Biden declared a major disaster on July 15th, 2021. For more information, please see the official White House press release.
People in the following counties are eligible to receive federal disaster assistance:
A toll-free legal assistance hotline is available to people affected by the severe storms and flooding that occurred in Washtenaw and Wayne counties from June 25-26, 2021.
Flood survivors facing legal issues who are unable to afford a lawyer may call 1-866-418-8315 between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Thursday and 9:00 am and 1:00 pm on Friday (EST), to request assistance.
*Macomb and Oakland Counties were added on September 25th, 2021

Applications for FEMA Assistance can be submitted by:
Phone: Contact FEMA at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY users can call 1-800-462-7585.
Online: Fill out the application at DisasterAssistance.gov
In-Person: You can also fill out the application at a FEMA Disaster Resource Center (DRC).
Mobile Registration Intake Center: MRICs move around regularly. They will be in an area for a short period of time to help survivors who need registration help. Visit FEMA’s Michigan Severe Storms and Flooding page to find more information about the Mobile Registration Intake Center locations and hours.
Disaster Recovery Center: To find a Disaster Recovery Center near you, use the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s DRC locator or text “DRC” and your zip code to 43362 (4FEMA) to locate a Disaster Recovery Center in your area.

A toll-free legal assistance hotline is available to people affected by the severe storms and flooding that occurred in Washtenaw and Wayne counties from June 25-26, 2021. This service is a partnership among Legal Services of South Central Michigan, Lakeshore Legal Aid, the State Bar of Michigan, the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division (ABA YLD), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and other local organizations.
Flood survivors facing legal issues who are unable to afford a lawyer may call 1-866-418-8315 between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Thursday and 9:00 am and 1:00 pm on Friday (EST), to request assistance. When connected to the hotline, callers should identify that they are seeking disaster-related
legal assistance, brief details of the assistance needed and in which county they are located. Individuals who qualify for assistance will be matched with Michigan lawyers who will provide free legal assistance.
