An atmospheric river struck the state of California starting on December 27, 2022, unleashing torrential rains and setting off catastrophic landslides and mudslides. On January 14, 2023, President Biden declared a major disaster.
People in the following counties are eligible to receive federal disaster assistance:
*Monterey, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Barbara counties were added on January 17, 2023.
**Calaveras and San Joaquin counties were added on January 18, 2023.
†San Mateo county was added on January 27, 2023.
‡Alameda, Contra Costa, Mendocina, and Ventura counties were added on February 2, 2023.

Deadline for reporting food lost/destroyed food has been extended to Tuesday, February 7, 2023.
Automatic CalFresh Replacement
34 ZIP Codes in Humboldt, Monterey, and Trinity counties were approved. All households will receive automatic CalFresh replacement equal to 70% of their usual benefit.

Phone: Contact FEMA at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY users can call 1-800-462-7585.
Online: Fill out the application at DisasterAssistance.gov
In-Person: You can also fill out the application at a FEMA Disaster Resource Center (DRC).
Mobile Registration Intake Center: MRICs move around regularly. They will be in an area for a short period of time to help survivors who need registration help. Visit FEMA’s Disaster Declaration page to find more information about the Mobile Registration Intake Center locations and hours.
Disaster Recovery Center: To find a Disaster Recovery Center near you, use the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s DRC locator or text “DRC” and your zip code to 43362 (4FEMA) to locate a Disaster Recovery Center in your area.

A free legal help hotline is now available for California Flooding survivors. The hotline is available to connect survivors to free legal services in qualifying counties who cannot afford an attorney. Survivors can call (888) 382-3406. Survivors can call the hotline anytime and leave a message if calling after hours.
